How Is Your Media Collection Affecting Your Feng Shui?
Get Stephen King out of your relationships!
We all have them. Stacks of movies, newspapers, books and magazines all around our homes. These items are a part of our everyday lives. They feed us, entertain us, and educate us. What type of material do you read? Which Movies do you enjoy? How many magazines do you subscribe to? Some keep it lean, while others have roman column looking piles all over the house.
We all have our own taste in entertainment. But let me lend a word of caution; where thoughts go, energy flows. If the books and other media in your home are largely about horror, murder, and other types of mayhem, you are inviting trouble.
My Feng Shui Master once told me that all books and movies should be out of site in closed cabinets. I could understand if we were talking about scary negative media, but I argued that if the information was of an uplifting nature, wouldn't it enhance the space? Her reply was that it was to much information streaming into the space and could cause a feeling of being overwhelmed. Personally, I cannot ask my clients to do something that I have not been able to do myself. Locking all my books in a closed cabinet is just not an option. Still, there are things we can do to minimize the impact of these information streams in our homes.
One of my clients had numerous Stephen King and other horror type novels on a bookshelf in her relationship area and could not figure out why her friendships, family relationships, and love life were riddled with feelings of being attacked, ridiculed, and discarded. These types of items are best passed along when you are done with them. As for the movies, just rent the scary ones if you must see them. Keep in mind that what you dwell upon in your thoughts will end up creating the You that you are.
Do an experiment; go on a (negative) media diet for one month. Stay away from the news, watch only movies that focus on positive messages (such as The Ultimate Gift, The Last Mimzy, almost anything from Disney, even comedies like Chuck and Larry) don't read the newspaper, and get yourself copies of these two books: Notes From The Universe and The Secret. Just having uplifting books and movies in your space will raise the Chi or life force energy of your home.
